The Star #2

Today when we were discussing the short story "The Star," we started noticing the true meaning of the story. Which lead us to different dilemmas. I remember in class when we started disccusing the point whether or not God existed based on the guys explanation of what happened to the civilation. I believe that God created the universe and let things happen as they would naturally happen. Just because he didnt stop the star from destroying the planet doesnt mean he doesnt exist. God isnt going to stop every little thing that happens in the world just because it is harmful to us. Otherwise all of the good people who have died innocently would have never died in the first place. Another dilemma that comes to mind based on the story is whether or not there is life on other planets. Our universe is extremely large, why wouldnt it be possible for other life to be living on them.

The Star (short story) 3/28/2007

Today we read the short story "The Star." For me it was kind of difficult to understand, I had to go back and reread the story again to try and understand the story. From what I understand a guy who is an astronomer is explaining an event in his head that happened some thousand of years ago, and as he does this he refers to his father "God." A star or supernova exploded so brightly that was able to be seen in the daylight, and the astronomer is trying to figure out what may have caused the big explosion. And when researching he finds a secret civilization's things left behind. He believes that they were preparing themselves for the explosion way ahead in advance. To me he becomes quite found and interested in them because he puts so much time and effort studying them. He keeps contemplating to himself why might father have done this. His colleagues come to an conclusion that God did it, but has no reason to explain himself. But he still doesnt except this an answer to the conclusion. He eventually figures out what happens, but still cant understand why God chose this one particular star out of all the stars in the universe.

Number 1

So far I have learned reading my book that a serious event has occured. A huge astroid is heading straight towards the United states, and the president and his staff are trying to find a way to prevent this from happening. The president isnt as sharp as you would think a president should be, but luckily he has right hand man to help him out. The staff is coming up with all the different outcomes of where the astroid might hit, and how deadly it will be. And their currently trying to find a guy that has retired to help fly the shuttle into space to prevent the astroid from hitting.
