The Dig (Book Review)

When I first began reading the book, I thought it would be really difficult for me because, I had to keep going back and rereading parts of the book to understand. But as I progessed it got really easy. It was about astronaughts going up into space trying to stop the asroid from hitting but accidently get transferred and trapped in an alien word. They have to learn the in's and outs of this strange planet to try and survive and escape. What I really enjoyed about the book was how they had the 2 astronaughts and the journalist narrating, and then at parts the unseen alien life forms would talk and narrate the story. I think this book should have chosen to read in our english IV class this semeseter, I think everyone would have really gotten into the story. Using Freytags triangle this his how I mapped out the story. In the beggining the government finds out the asteroid is heading for earth, and they're not quite sure where it is going to hit. The astronaughts go up into space to try and and blow up the asteroid with a bomb. They attatch bomb and it explodes but instead of blowing up it starts to glow violently, which is the beginning of the complication. The astronaughts go inside of the asteroid, and mysteriously vanish to the alien planet with no ways of getting back to earth. When on the planet one of the astronaughts dies, but later on in the book is broughten back to life by a life crystal from Mr. Low. With this newly found information they begin to analyze the planet and realize that the planet offers more to them than they may realize. Time elapses and the crystal that brought back Mr. Brink begins to mess with his personality, which later on makes him die again. Him and his journalist partner Mrs. Robbins finally come close to finding out a way to go back home, and she dies trying to reconfigure "The Eye." But luckily Mr. Low finds a way to activate it and is able to set free the aliens that trapped in it for thousands of years. The aliens then in return bring back Mr. Brink and Mrs. Robbins back to life, and help them get back home safely for setting them free.
